Minister of Foreign Affairs Participates in G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting
Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah participated on Thursday in the meeting of G20 Foreign Ministers, chaired by South Africa, under the theme “The United Nations at 80: Reaffirming Peace as a Path to Sustainable Economic Development”, held on the margins of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In his remarks, foreign minister stressed the importance of international economic cooperation and the activation of multilateral institutions, foremost among them the United Nations and the G20, describing them as vital platforms for coordinating efforts to address political and economic challenges.
Prince Faisal emphasized the Kingdom’s conviction that peace is a fundamental pillar for economic growth, creating a secure environment to attract investment, stimulate trade, support productive capacity, and build long-term partnerships that contribute to higher growth and prosperity. He added: “The Kingdom considers digital transformation and the green economy as promising opportunities for building more resilient economies, enabling broader participation for all segments of society, particularly women and youth.”
The foreign minister stated that addressing global challenges requires genuine international solidarity and multilateral cooperation based on shared responsibility. He said: “The world today faces rising levels of inequality, global economic disruptions that have deeply impacted millions of lives, escalating regional and international tensions, and repeated violations of international law. All these issues threaten the stability of the international order and hinder the path of sustainable development. Despite these challenges and the uncertainty in the global economy, the Kingdom has strengthened its economic resilience, maintained stable inflation rates, achieved strong growth in non-oil GDP, and recorded a historic decline in unemployment rates.”
Prince Faisal underscored the importance of collective action and enhanced coordination of global economic policies to ensure market stability and protect the most vulnerable nations from the consequences of financial and economic crises.
In conclusion, Prince Faisal reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to continue, through its economic diplomacy, building bridges between development and security policies to contribute to a more capable international system that achieves both peace and prosperity.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister for International Multilateral Affairs and General Supervisor of the Public Diplomacy Deputyship Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Rassi.
