Aseer Region Launches Ambitious Plan to Plant One Million Coffee Trees
Aseer Region is strengthening its position as one of the Kingdom’s leading Saudi coffee-producing regions through an ambitious plan to plant one million coffee trees between 2026 and 2028. The initiative aims to expand vegetation cover, support mountain economies, empower farmers, and promote sustainable natural resources. It was launched by the Asir Region Coffee Association in partnership with the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification under the mountain economy initiative.
The initiative builds on rapid sector growth, following the planting of more than 634,000 coffee trees between 2022 and 2025 across over 7,000 hectares in 14 governorates. Annual production is estimated at 1,500 tons of coffee cherries and 500 tons of green coffee beans, supporting the development of a value-added agricultural industry amid rising global demand for premium coffee.
More than 1,400 active farms are contributing to rural incomes, job creation, and economic activity in mountainous areas.
According to Chairperson of the Asir Region Coffee Association Noura Al Ayed, the initiative marks a shift toward expansion and sustainability, strengthening Saudi coffee’s competitiveness locally and globally.
