Volunteerism in Saudi Arabia Shifts Toward High-Impact Professional Service

Volunteerism in Saudi Arabia has evolved into a cornerstone of national development, with the Kingdom reaching 1.5 million registered volunteers by 2025, surpassing the Vision 2030 target five years ahead of schedule and reflecting a significant shift toward specialized volunteering, where expertise and skills generate tangible societal and economic impact.

Al-Baha Region exemplifies this progress, recording over 14 million volunteer hours in 2025 across 33 sectors, including health, technology, and pilgrim services. The distribution of volunteer types highlights a sophisticated landscape where general volunteering accounts for the vast majority at 82.3%, while skills-based and professional volunteering contribute 12% and 5.8%, respectively.

The economic value of these efforts is now estimated at SAR305.51 per hour, underscoring the vital role of the non-profit sector in the national economy.

Through the National Volunteer Portal, which connects 3.4 million volunteers with 7,500 entities, the National Center for Non-Profit Sector continues to institutionalize giving. By focusing on impact measurement and professional expertise, the center is transforming community values into sustainable national development.
