Shura Council Delegation Explores Biodiversity at Farasan Islands Protected Area

A Shura Council delegation visited the Farasan Islands Protected Area yesterday to review conservation efforts and the region's unique environmental heritage. During the field tour, members were briefed by the National Center for Wildlife on its management strategies and the implementation of international best practices in protected area development.

The visit focused on critical ecosystems, highlighting the mangrove forests as essential coastal buffers for marine biodiversity and the Farasan gazelle habitats, where advanced protection and monitoring programs support this iconic native species.

The delegation also reviewed the reserve's strategic importance as a stopover for migratory routes, a role that remains vital to maintaining the ecological balance of the Red Sea.

Delegates examined the center's advanced field monitoring systems designed to ensure wildlife sustainability. As one of the Kingdom's most significant ecological sites, the Farasan Islands Protected Area remains central to national efforts to preserve the Red Sea's diverse marine and coastal habitats for future generations.
