BRICS Media and Think Tank Forum in Rio: Voices of the Global South Unite to Reshape the Global Narrative
The city of Rio de Janeiro recently hosted the BRICS Media and Think Tank Forum, bringing together delegates from across the Global South to unify efforts in reshaping the global media narrative and enhancing the presence of developing countries in international affairs.
The forum, considered a pivotal event, welcomed over 250 participants representing media outlets, research centers, government institutions, and enterprises from 36 countries, including BRICS member states, partner nations, and regional organizations.
Discussions were held under the theme “BRICS United: Forging a New Chapter for the Global South,” focusing on BRICS’ role in leading development, building a shared digital future, and amplifying the voice of the Global South on the world stage.
Towards a Shared Digital Future
One of the forum’s key outcomes was the announcement of an initiative on artificial intelligence (AI) cooperation and development, following in-depth discussions on the role of media and think tanks in advancing collaboration, shaping governance frameworks, and establishing technical standards tailored to the needs of the Global South.
The initiative underscored AI’s growing role in global communication, industrial cooperation, and knowledge exchange, calling for a collective approach to R&D, standards, and governance to ensure that the benefits of AI are shared equitably across the world.
