Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project Restores Historic Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque in Najran

The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques continues its mission to rehabilitate the Kingdom’s ancient prayer sites, with the historic Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque in Najran emerging as a primary focus.

Located in the heart of Thar Governorate, this mosque is the oldest in the area and remains the sole venue for Friday prayers, serving as both a religious beacon and a social hub for resolving disputes and hosting community gatherings.

Originally built in the traditional Najran style using concrete blocks and wooden beams, the 130-square-meter structure has undergone comprehensive renovation. The project expanded its capacity from 57 to 118 worshippers, adding a dedicated women's prayer area and modern facilities while meticulously preserving its authentic architectural identity.

Guided by Saudi Vision 2030, the restoration was executed by specialized Saudi companies and engineers to ensure a balance between historical preservation and modern sustainability.

The project operates under four strategic objectives: preparing sites for worship, restoring architectural authenticity, highlighting Saudi Arabia's cultural dimension, and enhancing the religious significance of these landmarks. By integrating traditional building standards with functional upgrades, the initiative ensures that mosques such as Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq continue to serve as living monuments to the Kingdom’s rich civilizational heritage for future generations.
