NCVC, Aramco Collaborate to Disperse 50 Million Seeds in Rub’ Al-Khali, Eastern Region
The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) is leveraging the drilling and surveying operations conducted by Saudi Aramco at three sites in Rub’ Al-Khali (Empty Quarter) and two locations in Haradh and Yabreen in Eastern Region. In a collaborative effort between the NCVC and Aramco, the center dispersed pastoral seeds and planted native species at several targeted sites.
The effort is one of various partnerships the center is establishing with government, private, and non-profit sectors to enhance vegetation cover and contribute to environmental sustainability, thereby helping to mitigate the effects of global warming and sand encroachment.
During this latest initiative, the center successfully dispersed around 50 million seeds of native species, including arta, arfaj, dumran, and ramth, at the geophysical survey sites managed by Aramco.
The NCVC implements numerous initiatives, programs, and projects aimed at fostering, protecting, and developing a thriving and sustainable vegetation cover across the Kingdom. The center seeks to rehabilitate degraded lands and restore biodiversity in natural environments, while supervising and effectively managing grazing lands and national parks. It combats encroachments on vegetation, addresses issues of illegal logging throughout the Kingdom, and protects natural resources, in line with the center's vision of creating a flourishing and diverse vegetation cover that enhances environmental sustainability and improves quality of life.
