British Islamic Leaders Welcome the Secretary General of the Muslim World League at the Islamic Centre in London
Dr. Al-Issa: We have every right to take pride in the British Muslim community, as a conscious and integral part of society that truly represents our Islamic faith in this diverse and influential environment.
The Islamic Centre in the British capital hosted a broad meeting between His Excellency the Secretary General of the Muslim World League and President of the Association of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, and Islamic leaders from across the United Kingdom.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the importance of prioritizing wisdom in the behavior of Muslim communities toward all circumstances, particularly in the face of provocations and tactics used by extremists. It was stressed that Islamic awareness should thwart such provocations, following the example of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who responded to unparalleled challenges with wisdom, forgiveness, and grace, embodying the principle of “Repel evil with that which is better.”
Dr. Al-Issa highlighted the need to unify Islamic authority in matters of fatwa and religious guidance, especially on public issues. He noted that the Islamic Fiqh Council of the MWL—the oldest and most established jurisprudential body in Islamic history—plans, Allah willing, to hold a forum at this centre to address jurisprudential issues relevant to Muslim communities, upon the invitation and hosting of the centre.
The forum will also propose the establishment of a periodically updated code of jurisprudence, along with new developments in imam training programs in the UK, based on the principles of the Makkah Declaration. There will also be a proposal to integrate the declaration into Islamic educational curricula at various levels.
His Excellency further emphasized the importance of shielding Muslim youth from ideologies that deviate from Islamic moderation—beginning with the central role of the family, continuing through the content and teaching quality of religious education, and extending to all platforms of influence, especially Friday sermons and public lectures.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Al-Issa praised the awareness of the British Muslim community, stating: "We are rightfully proud of this community, which stands as a conscious component reflecting the true image of our Islamic faith within a diverse and influential society.”
The session concluded with a number of questions and comments, many of which praised the global efforts of the Muslim World League, expressing their pride in the organization. They noted that this appreciation is evident across various levels of British society.
Attendees also expressed their deep appreciation for the Secretary General’s visit to the United Kingdom and his meetings with senior officials at a time of great importance—particularly his discussion of the escalating and alarming phenomenon of Islamophobia. They commended the objective and wise solutions he proposed to address this challenge.
Furthermore, they acknowledged the MWL's efforts to unify local Islamic authority—similar to what has been successfully achieved in several minority-Muslim countries—affirming their strong hopes in this endeavor after previous attempts had faltered. They added that the proposals and initiatives presented by the Secretary General have been widely appreciated and have further strengthened the trust of British society in the League’s international discourse and initiatives—especially those promoting social cohesion and optimal coexistence in line with Islam’s values.
