NeLC's AI Sandbox Initiative Recognized by World Bank for Human Capability Development

In its report on AI sandbox environments for digital education, the World Bank highlighted the AI Sandbox in Digital Learning initiative launched by Saudi Arabia’s National eLearning Center (NeLC) a year and a half ago, emphasizing its role in developing human capabilities, enhancing the social and economic impact of innovation, and serving as a national model for an innovation-driven knowledge economy that strengthens the readiness of national talent for future requirements.
The report noted that the initiative, led by NeLC, combines solution development, capacity building, governance, and partnerships, enabling institutions and innovators to develop and test AI applications in safe, real-world educational environments and transform innovative ideas into scalable, practical solutions.
The World Bank stressed that this approach enhances the innovation ecosystem, boosts institutional readiness, and promotes evidence-based knowledge production, supporting the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, particularly in the areas of human capability development, the digital economy, and innovation.
The initiative's results demonstrate this impact, having empowered more than 6,300 beneficiaries, developed 41 AI-based solutions, established 22 strategic local and international partnerships, and produced eight evidence-based research studies.
