Arab Parliament President Affirms Centrality of Palestinian Rights in Arab Discourse
President of the Arab Parliament Mohamed AlYammahi reaffirmed that the Palestinian cause is the primary issue for Arabs. Despite enduring catastrophes, genocide, and displacement, the Palestinian people remain steadfast in their land and committed to their inalienable rights.
In a statement marking the 108th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, AlYammahi called the declaration's promise one of the most unjust decisions in modern history, which has inflicted ongoing suffering on the Palestinian people. He noted that it enabled policies of displacement and aggression against Palestinians on their land and holy sites.
He described the Sharm El-Sheikh ceasefire agreement as a significant step toward halting aggression in the Gaza Strip. However, he emphasized that this must be followed by immediate reconstruction, with full Palestinian participation and management.
AlYammahi asserted that any future political plan for Gaza or the Palestinian territories must grant Palestinians complete decision-making authority over their land. He called for the unrestricted entry of humanitarian and medical aid into the Gaza Strip.
The president welcomed Britain’s recent recognition of the State of Palestine and urged other nations, especially in Europe, to follow suit, lift the injustice faced by Palestinians, and fully recognize the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.
