300 Years of Heritage: Al-Taboot Mosque Restored under Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project
The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques is rehabilitating Al-Taboot Mosque on Farasan Island, a 300-year-old landmark reflecting the rich religious architecture of Jazan Region.
Located in the heart of Al-Tarambi neighborhood, the mosque has served as an important social and spiritual center for centuries. Its legacy has been preserved by notable imams and scholars.
Built from locally quarried stone and mud, the mosque features a traditional design with a prayer hall topped by three equal domes and three main entrances that harmonize with the island’s coastal environment.
Through the project, the mosque’s capacity has increased from 106 to 164 worshippers while preserving its authentic architectural identity. The restoration aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 by balancing heritage preservation with modern sustainability and highlighting the Kingdom’s diverse cultural and religious history.
