SAR Achieves Record Performance in H1 2025
The Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) announced record operating results for the first half of 2025, transporting 7,933,758 passengers across over 21,000 trips on its North, East, and Haramain High Speed Railway networks. This marks an 8% growth from last year, largely due to an exceptional 1446 AH Hajj season where the Haramain High Speed Railway carried 1.2 million pilgrims and the Mashaer Metro Train carried 1.8 million pilgrims on over 2,100 trips.
In freight operations, SAR transported 14,932,157 tons of minerals and goods during the first half of this year, a 13% increase from H1 2024. This achievement removed over 700,000 truck trips from Saudi roads, reduced fuel consumption by more than 72 million liters, and lowered carbon emissions by 190,000 tons. These efforts align with the Kingdom's environmental sustainability goals and enhance logistics transport efficiency.
SAR Chief Executive Dr. Bashar bin Khalid AlMalik stated that these operational indicators reflect SAR's commitment to providing sustainable and efficient transport solutions, supported by the wise leadership and aligned with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030.
AlMalik added that SAR aims to create sustainable economic and environmental impact, not just operate railways. Through the "Asasat" program, it is steadily moving towards over 60% local content by year-end, strengthening national industries and generating quality jobs for local talent.
