ZATCA Thwarts Smuggling of Nearly 4.8 Million Amphetamine Pills at Jeddah Islamic Port
The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has foiled an attempt to smuggle 4,793,000 amphetamine pills through Jeddah Islamic Port.
ZATCA spokesperson Hamoud Al-Harbi reported that the illicit cargo arrived in a shipment declared as charcoal. During routine customs procedures, inspectors using advanced security technologies and canine units discovered the millions of pills concealed within bags of charcoal.
Following the seizure, ZATCA coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, leading to the apprehension of the intended recipient within the Kingdom.
Al-Harbi reaffirmed that ZATCA remains vigilant at all ports of entry, tightening control over imports and exports to protect society and curb the smuggling of prohibited substances.
The authority emphasized that protecting the national economy and society is a collective responsibility. Citizens and residents are encouraged to report smuggling activities via the following confidential channels: security reporting hotline 1910, email 1910@zatca.gov.sa, or international number 00966114208417.
ZATCA ensures full confidentiality for all informants and offers financial rewards for information that leads to the detection of smuggling crimes or violations of the GCC Common Customs Law.
