Weqaa Inspects Over a Million Livestock for Hajj 1446 AH

The National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases (Weqaa) in the Makkah Region has intensified its field efforts to ensure the safety of sacrificial animals and mitigate the risks of animal diseases and their vectors. These actions are part of the center's operational plan for this year’s Hajj season.

Since the start of operations, field veterinary teams have conducted health inspections on more than 1,160,493 head of livestock. Over 690,379 head have been cleared for entry after confirmation that they are free from epidemic and infectious diseases, with temporary health certificates issued to permit their entry into Makkah.

As part of broader control efforts, the number of inspection rounds conducted at livestock markets and slaughterhouses—along with accompanying awareness activities—reached 2,802. Meanwhile, disease vector control teams carried out 3,213 surveillance and control rounds in the holy sites and surrounding areas.
