Heritage Commission and Motoko Katakura Foundation Sign Agreement to Foster Cultural Cooperation

The Heritage Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Motoko Katakura Foundation for Desert Culture to enhance international cultural cooperation and exchange expertise in the field of cultural heritage.
The signing ceremony, held at the commission’s headquarters in Riyadh, was attended by Chief Executive Officer of the Heritage Commission Dr. Jasser bin Sulaiman Al-Harbash and Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Directors Dr. Hiroshi Nawata, along with other officials and experts.
The MoU aims to establish a strong partnership to support research and studies related to tangible and intangible cultural heritage, including customs, traditions, and diverse cultural practices. It also seeks to identify opportunities for collaboration through joint seminars to showcase the Japanese foundation’s efforts in preserving desert culture, particularly at the archaeological sites of Al-Dafi Port and the Mardouma site.
Additionally, the agreement focuses on utilizing the expertise of the Motoko Katakura Foundation to involve local communities in research and documentation activities, which are critical to the protection and preservation of cultural heritage. This collaborative initiative is expected to open new opportunities for cooperation at both local and international levels, fostering a deeper global appreciation of Saudi and desert culture.
