17 Cadets Join ‘NextWave Seafarers’ Program Launched by Transport Authority in Collaboration with IMO and Bahri

The Transport General Authority (TGA), in cooperation with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Bahri, has launched the pilot program “NextWave Seafarers (NWS),” running from 2025 to 2026, to prepare a new generation of highly skilled maritime professionals capable of leading the future of the global maritime transport industry.
A total of 17 male and female cadets have joined the program, where they will undergo a six-month training journey that includes practical rotations and knowledge-building modules designed to equip them for careers in the maritime sector.
The program is one of the most prominent international joint initiatives hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, bringing together TGA, IMO, and Bahri. It reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to investing in human capital and strengthening its role in supporting the sustainability of the global maritime transport industry.
The launch of this program comes at a time when the global maritime sector is placing increasing importance on developing young professionals. The initiative aims to provide an integrated training environment that enables knowledge exchange, supports the maritime industry, and enhances the presence of new talent within this vital sector.
The program is an extension of the Kingdom's efforts to adopt strategic international initiatives aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, by building an advanced and sustainable transport industry and reinforcing the Kingdom’s position as an active global partner in the development of the maritime transport sector.
