Danantara Indonesia Forges Strategic Partnership with ACWA Power to Drive Sustainable Energy Future
Badan Pengelola Investasi Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara Indonesia) has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ACWA Power, the world’s largest private water desalination company, a leader in energy transition and a first mover into green hydrogen. ACWA Power has also entered a strategic partnership with PT Pertamina, an Indonesian state- owned oil and gas corporation, to collaborate on the development of multi-billion-dollar power generation and water desalination projects within Indonesia.
The first MoU, signed between Danantara Indonesia and ACWA Power, formalises the exploration of investments by ACWA Power in Indonesia. The investments will center on projects in renewable energy generation, combined cycle gas turbines, green hydrogen and water desalination.
The second agreement, signed between PT Pertamina and ACWA Power, focuses on the joint development of clean energy projects in Indonesia. This includes the technology development of cumulative 500MW of renewable energy and gas-to-power projects, new electricity tender, green hydrogen projects, and operation and maintenance (O&M) business lines.
With a total project funding of up to USD 10 billion, this partnership will help Indonesia in achieving its target of a 34 per cent mix of renewables in its total energy mix by 2034 and 87 per cent by 2060, signalling a vast potential to become a clean energy leader in the coming years.
Commenting on the signings, Raad Al-Saady, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of ACWA Power, said: “ACWA Power is proud to deepen our presence in Indonesia’s power and water sector through these agreements. These partnerships represent our commitment to support Indonesia in achieving its long-term energy and water security goals, contributing to the development of a sustainable and greener future.”
Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Chief Executive Officer of Danantara, stated: "Our collaboration with ACWA Power represents a significant step in positioning Indonesia as a key player in the global energy transition. This partnership brings both capital and expertise to accelerate high-impact projects in solar, hydrogen, and integrated water- energy solutions. It reflects our broader commitment at Danantara Indonesia to foster credible, long-term partnerships that support national priorities while delivering commercial value. By channeling state-owned resources into ventures with proven global players, we aim to catalyze sustainable growth, enhance energy resilience, and attract continued foreign direct investment. This is how we move toward a greener and more prosperous future—together."
Simon Aloysius Mantiri, Chief Executive Officer of PT Pertamina, said: "Pertamina is fully committed to its dual growth strategy—ensuring national energy security while accelerating the energy transition. Our collaboration with ACWA Power is a strategic step toward realizing this vision. By joining forces on renewable energy, green hydrogen, and sustainable infrastructure, we aim to create tangible value for both nations and lead the region’s transformation toward a low-carbon economy."
