Hail Rally: Celebrating Two Decades of Champion Legacy

The Hail International Rally has carved its name as one of the region's most prestigious desert rallies, captivating motorsport enthusiasts since its inception in 2006 and serving as a thrilling stage for global competition, crowning champions from Saudi Arabia, the Arab world, and beyond.
Now in its 20th edition, the 2025 rally continues this legacy of excellence and adventure.
The rally’s story began with Saudi racer Farhan Al-Ghalib, who etched his name in history as the inaugural champion in 2006. The Saudis continued their dominance with the late Rajeh Al-Shammari securing victory in the second edition. Qatari motorsport legend Nasser Al-Attiyah added his name to the list of champions in 2008 and again in 2011, showcasing his prowess on the desert tracks.
The rally’s evolution saw Saudi champion Yazeed Al-Rajhi emerge as a dominant force. Al-Rajhi claimed his first title in 2009 and went on to win an impressive seven times, with victories in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2022, and 2024. His consistency and skill have made him a fan favorite and a symbol of Saudi motorsport excellence.
In 2013, Czech driver Miroslav Zapletal became the first European champion of the rally, marking a milestone in the event’s growing international appeal. Saudi competitors continued to shine, with Ibrahim Al-Muhanna claiming victory in 2014 and Fares Al-Mashna taking the title in 2017.
Essa Al-Dosari further bolstered Saudi Arabia’s dominance with back-to-back wins in 2018 and 2019, while Saleh Alabdalali secured first place in 2020. That same year, the rally hosted two Baja rounds, crowning two champions: Nasser Al-Attiyah for Baja 1 and Spain’s Carlos Sainz for Baja 2.
Al-Attiyah returned to the podium in 2021 and 2023, adding his fourth and fifth Hail Rally titles and solidifying his reputation as one of the sport’s greats. Meanwhile, Yazeed Al-Rajhi’s 2024 victory reaffirmed his position as a rally legend.
