Aseer Emerges as Model for Environmental Diversity and Conservation

Marking World Environment Day on June 5, Aseer Region stands out as one of Saudi Arabia’s richest environmental landscapes, distinguished by its remarkable biodiversity and varied natural features.
Stretching from the towering peaks of the Sarawat Mountains, some rising above 3,000 meters, to lush highlands and the coastal plains of Tihama, the region hosts a wide range of ecosystems that support abundant wildlife and plant life.
Aseer’s moderate climate and relatively high seasonal rainfall have sustained thriving forests of juniper, wild olive, and acacia, along with a variety of aromatic and medicinal plants. The region also serves as an important habitat for numerous resident and migratory bird species.
Protected areas across Aseer play a vital role in conserving natural habitats, restoring vegetation cover, and advancing national sustainability efforts. Combined with growing ecotourism initiatives, these assets reinforce Aseer’s position as a leading environmental and tourism destination aligned with Saudi Vision 2030.
