Umm Al-Qura University Makes Major Leap in QS World University Rankings for Sustainability

Umm Al-Qura University made a significant leap in the QS World University Sustainability Rankings, rising from 1,161st place in 2025 to 697th in 2026.

This progress reflects the university's extensive efforts to strengthen social responsibility, activate sustainable initiatives that serve both the environment and the community, and advance its education and research systems in line with global standards.

The university’s various projects — including emission-reduction initiatives, waste-management programs, applied research on climate change, and both local and international partnerships — have also strengthened its global standing among higher-education institutions committed to sustainability.

The QS World University Rankings for Sustainability is an annual assessment that evaluates universities’ performance and commitment to addressing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges. It aims to provide students and stakeholders with a clear perspective on institutions that demonstrate a genuine commitment to creating more sustainable campuses and generating a positive impact in their communities.
