Saudi Geological Survey Receives High Rating for National Geological Database Portal

The Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) has received a high evaluation for its National Geological Database Portal from the German company BGR and the portal’s technical partner, based on technical classification standards and the quality of data provided. The assessment was conducted as part of a periodic benchmarking study that monitors service quality, diversity, and usability, with the portal achieving ratings of 4.50-4.60 out of 5.00 among global geological data provider platforms.

SGS official spokesperson Tareq Aba Alkhail explained that this rating reflects the availability of detailed geological data for expired and relinquished projects covering an area exceeding 42,000 square kilometers, as well as the release of the first batch of geological map information at a scale of 1:100,000. The portal has also completed the publication of more than 90% of general geophysical survey data, including airborne magnetic survey products and high-resolution scanning data for selected core drilling samples.

He noted that this evaluation followed the development of the enhanced beta version of the portal’s services, which features upgraded technical tools for viewing, extracting, and downloading data in multiple formats, in line with the requirements of investors worldwide.
